Squeezebox

In a live production environment, there can be times when you need to squeeze your program feed or playback to to reveal a CG. Sometimes overlays won’t cut it because they would conflict with overlays already on the video, or block a visually important part of the image. Using the stock compression DVEs for the VT switcher, this can be tricky to pull off. Pull the fader bar too far, not far enough, or not smooth enough, and it just doesn’t look right. In order to look good you have to hit the mark the first time and every time.
That’s where the Squeezebox DVE set comes in. Squeezebox DVEs work similarly to regular Picture in Picture DVEs, but they put the video exactly where you need it to kick in anything from weather alerts to the latest lotto numbers.
When you pull the T-Bar on a Sqeezebox DVE the first quarter of the pull gets your video in place. Through the middle of the T-Bar stroke, no changes happen – it’s a safety zone so you don’t have to worry about over or under pulling.
With the Sqeezebox DVEs, breaking news ticker headlines are a snap. Load your graphic page in a DDR, reveal it with a Sqeezebox DVE, and bring up your crawl on the DSK. It’s that easy.
To help you design CG pages that line up with the DVEs, we have also built a set of PNG format graphic templates. You can import these into Newtek's CG Designer or your favorite image editor, and build your properly formatted pages quickly.
With 9 Squeezebox DVEs you can squeeze in lower thirds, upper thirds, combined lower and right or left thirds, simultaneous upper and lower thirds (letterbox,) right or left side half-frame squeezes or put your video in a picture in picture on the left or right.
Adding to the nine squeezes, we've bundled in 9 wipe reveals let you wipe in lower thirds, upper thirds, combined lower and right or left thirds, simultaneous upper and lower thirds (letterbox,) right or left side half-frame squeezes or windows on the left or right. .
To make things even easier, we’ve also included PIP-it. This handy toaster-script makes using any picture in picture or Squeezebox DVE easier. You don’t need to pull the T-Bar or use Ctrl-Alt-Key combinations. Just press the P key and the T-Bar automatically moves smoothly to the halfway point at whatever speed you have selected on the Switcher. Press P again, and the T-Bar automatically reverses out, bringing you back from your sqeeze to full frame video.
The 18 squeezebox DVEs are aspect ratio independent, and handcrafted in the USA for NTSC use with VT[2], VT[3], VT[4], and VT[5].
